The industry as a whole isn’t in the best of shape.  There are far more people who shouldn’t be working in this field than people who should.  It follows that finding a qualified and worthy professional (trainer, strength coach, physiotherapist, chiropractor, orthopedic surgeon, etc) can be challenging.

We do offer online consultative services, but we fully admit that this isn’t sufficient for many folks.  Our hope is that this page will grow as a network – a place you, the customer/patient, can come to locate professionals who have high standards.  Developing this list will be a slow process.  If we don’t list a professional in your geographic location, feel free to drop us a line and we’ll see what we can come up with.

This is what I’m thinking: It’s becomming pretty clear that the trainers at this local gym, who have minimal accreditation ( yeah spelling sucks) are just going to annoy me and bomb my progress. Please give me feedback on the viability of this option- I motor down to Philly, you evaluate me, wonder how I manage to stay alive in this shape, and formulate a plan that makes sense to help get me out of this mess. I live in Bayonne, NJ. I am in shooting distance after all

I wouldn’t be opposed to that. It’d have to be at my studio in Pottstown, which isn’t a problem as long as you’re okay with a “down and dirty” facility. That’s where I’ve been training more and more people anyhow. Email me at with what you’re thinking.

Thanks again. I appreciate the feedback. I did fire that trainer and have been “assigned” a little lady that claims she does power lifting competitions. Unfortunately her understanding of nutrition scares me: Suggested I not eat eggs as they raise cholesterol, eat 6x a day, and buy a boat load of “fat melting” supplements. (eyes rolling)

Finding a trainer who thinks objectively is an impossible endeavor… or so it seems. I mean pure objectivity is impossible, but what you’ll find is that mostly all of them are married to their own pet hypotheses which may or may not be factually based. What’s worse is they believe these ideas to be the One Way of going about things for any and every client they encounter. It seems to be worse, in my opinion, when dealing on the nutrition front.

Thank you for the prompt response. I had rather hoped that not seeing a Jersey guy listed was just a metter of not having the time to update. I live in Bayonne, NJ (kinda close to Newark, Elizabeth, jersey City) but I am willing to do a bit of travel. I belong to a generic local gym and the trainers have the most basic credentials. While I’m VERY aware I need cardio work, it annoys the heck out of me to be paying a trainer to watch me sweat on a treadmil. I’ve not been succesful convincing them to get me into the weight “pit”. I can live with being 200 lbs but want that to be muscle not fat. Thank you again

Yeah, you definitely do NOT need to be paying a trainer to gawk at you while you do conditioning work on a treadmill. Some of my clients do conditioning work under my supervision, but they’re athletes and the structure of the conditioning work is very specific to the biological adaptations I’m shooting for relative to their needs for sport. That’s a world apart from simply doing some calorie-wasting on the treadmill.

I’ll keep you posted if I hear anything.

Hello, I’m learning ALOT from the web site and I am even considering having a program made up for me with a visit to to one of the locations.
I do know myself though, and would like to have a face to face trainer to keep me in line.. Do you know anyone worth talking to in New Jersey? I’ve already fired 2 trainers which either make me a bitch or brillient

Steve Troutman June 25, 2012 at 11:28 am

Hi June, thanks for reaching out. Sorry to hear you’ve been through the gamut with personal trainers. I don’t know anyone specifically in Jersey who I could recommend. Otherwise I’d have them listed here. That said, in response to your message, I reached out to someone who might be able to help. I’ll keep you posted.

Where in Jersey are you?
